http://www.tanahlot.net Tanah Lot means "Land in the Middle of the sea" in Balinese language. Located about 20 km from Denpasar, the temple sits on a huge offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.

Tanah Lot is said to be the work of the 15th century priest Nirartha. The story goes that during his travels along the south coast he saw the rock-island's beautiful setting and rested there. Some fishermen saw him, and bought him gifts. Nirartha then spent the night on the little island. Later he spoke to the fishermen and told them to build a shrine on the rock for he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese sea gods.

The Tanah Lot temple was then built and has been an important part of Balinese mythological history for centuries. The temple is one of seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. It was said that each of the sea temples was to be within eyesight of the next so that they formed a chain along the south-western coast.

At the base of the rocky island, poisonous sea snakes are believed to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders. There is said to be one giant snake which also protects the temple. It is believed that this snake was created from Nirartha’s scarf when he established the island

Kecak dance

The Kecak is an unusual Balinese dance for a couple of reasons.

First, there is no musical accompaniment. The gamelan is not there. Rhythm is provided by a chanting 'monkey' chorus. The polyrhythmic sound of the chanting provides the name,
'Ke-chak'.

The fifty men chorus gathers in a ring around a flame, to create a stage. They also act as various monkey armies in the story, and become an undulating snake in one of the pivotal scenes.

With only the flame as lighting, this performance takes on a primeval feel, especially when staged outside the hotel setting.

Secondly, the Kecak dance is the only dance that was invented for the tourist, it is almost never watched by a Balinese.

he story line for the Kecak is taken from the Ramayana.

Prince Rama goes hunting for a golden deer and his beautiful wife is kidnapped by the evil Rawana.

Story is secondary in this performance, though. If you want to see the story of the Ramayana, you should see a Ramayana performance.

The Kecak is a triumph of style and mood, rather than story. Watch the faces of audience members. More than any other Balinese dance, the Kecak turns every viewer into a child, wide-eyed and transfixed.

Taman GWK Patung Dewa wisnu

Patung Garuda Wisnu Kencana berlokasi di Bukit Unggasan - Jimbaran, Bali. Patung ini merupakan karya pematung terkenal Bali, I Nyoman Nuarta. Monumen ini dikembangkan sebagai taman budaya dan menjadi ikon bagi pariwisata Bali dan Indonesia.

Patung tersebut berwujud Dewa Wisnu yang dalam agama Hindu adalah Dewa Pemelihara (Sthiti), mengendarai burung Garuda. Tokoh Garuda dapat dilihat di kisah Garuda & Kerajaannya yang berkisah mengenai rasa bakti dan pengorbanan burung Garuda untuk menyelamatkan ibunya dari perbudakan yang akhirnya dilindungi oleh Dewa Wisnu.

Patung ini diproyeksikan untuk mengikat tata ruang dengan jarak pandang sampai dengan 20 km sehingga dapat terlihat dari Kuta, Sanur, Nusa Dua hingga Tanah Lot. Patung Garuda Wisnu Kencana ini merupakan simbol dari misi penyelamatan lingkungan dan dunia. Patung ini terbuat dari campuran tembaga dan baja seberat 4.000 ton, dengan tinggi 75 meter dan lebar 60 meter. Jika pembangunannya selesai, patung ini akan menjadi patung terbesar di dunia dan mengalahkan Patung Liberty.

Pura Uluwatu

Pura Luhur Uluwatu atau Pura Uluwatu merupakan pura yang berada di wilayah Desa Pecatu, Kecamatan Kuta, Badung.

Pura yang terletak di ujung barat daya pulau Bali di atas anjungan batu karang yang terjal dan tinggi serta menjorok ke laut ini merupakan Pura Sad Kayangan yang dipercaya oleh orang Hindu sebagai penyangga dari 9 mata angin. Pura ini pada mulanya digunakan menjadi tempat memuja seorang pendeta suci dari Abad 11 bernama Empu Kuturan. Ia menurunkan ajaran Desa Adat dengan segala aturannya. Pura ini juga dipakai untuk memuja pendeta suci berikutnya, yaitu Dang Hyang Nirartha, yang datang ke Bali di akhir tahun 1550 dan mengakhiri perjalanan sucinya dengan apa yang dinamakan Moksah/Ngeluhur di tempat ini. Kata inilah yang menjadi asal nama Pura Luhur Uluwatu.^[1]

Pura Uluwatu terletak pada ketinggian 97 meter dari permukaan laut. Di depan pura terdapat hutan kecil yang disebut alas kekeran, berfungsi sebagai penyangga kesucian pura.

Pura Uluwatu mempunyai beberapa pura pesanakan, yaitu pura yang erat kaitannya dengan pura induk. Pura pesanakan itu yaitu Pura Bajurit, Pura Pererepan, Pura Kulat, Pura Dalem Selonding dan Pura Dalem Pangleburan. Masing-masing pura ini mempunyai kaitan erat dengan Pura Uluwatu, terutama pada hari-hari piodalan-nya. Piodalan di Pura Uluwatu, Pura Bajurit, Pura Pererepan dan Pura Kulat jatuh pada Selasa Kliwon Wuku Medangsia setiap 210 hari. Manifestasi Tuhan yang dipuja di Pura Uluwatu adalah Dewa Rudra.^[2]

Pura Uluwatu juga menjadi terkenal karena tepat di bawahnya adalah pantai Pecatu yang sering kali digunakan sebagai tempat untuk olahraga surfing, bahkan event internasional seringkali diadakan di sini. Ombak pantai ini terkenal amat cocok untuk dijadikan tempat surfing selain keindahan alam Bali yang memang amat cantik.

She didn’t give me much detail except there is a kick-arse cage where u could go in and do your thing.

I tried to find more info about this place, but couldn’t get anything worth uploading.
